Document E-1023 Conserving Beneficial Arthropods in Residential Landscapes

By Eric Rebek and Alissa Berro. Beneficial arthropods serve important roles in home gardens. Pollinators can enhance production of fruit and vegetable crops, especially for plants that require insects for pollination. Predators and parasitoids (natural enemies) provide natural pest control by maintaining pest densities below damaging levels. Therefore, beneficial arthropods should be encouraged in residential landscapes to improve plant health. This circular discusses identification of major natural enemy groups and strategies for conserving them in these often highly disturbed environments. Reviewed May 2015.
